The Slocan City Hotel is just a block from the south end of the Slocan Lake, with Valhalla Provincial Park to the East, the villages of New Denver and Silverton to the North, and the river valley to the South. Find out more about the hotel and surrounding area below.

 

FAQ – The Hotel

Is breakfast and dinner available at the hotel?

During the summer season the restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. Throughout the year, we open for dinner 6 days a week (closed Mondays). Please check the restaurant website for details of current opening hours. https://thelobby.live For early risers the coffee shop two doors down from the hotel is open from 8am for coffee and snacks.

 

Is there convenient free parking?

There is free parking reserved for hotel guests at the side of the hotel.

Is there safe storage for our bicycles?

Cyclists staying at the hotel cannot bring bikes into the rooms, however they can be chained to the railings on the covered deck at the front of the building. This area is for hotel guests only, and as long as bikes are positioned so as not to obstruct access, they will be safe and secure.

Are the rooms easily accessible?

The two suites and two of the queen rooms are located on the upper floor, accessible by well lit outdoor stairways at front and back, and a covered deck. The wheelchair accessible queen room ( Room 5) is located on the ground floor, and accessed via wheelchair ramp at the back of the restaurant deck area. This suite also has fully wheelchair accessible washroom facilities and shower. If you have difficulty with stairs it is recommended to book the wheelchair accessible room.

Can I bring my pet?

We are happy to accommodate your pet, as long as they are not aggressive to other animals or humans. There is no fee to bring your pet, however please include them in your booking, we reserve the right to charge an additional cleaning fee if there is extra cleaning required. Our beloved German Shepherd lives on site, and is very friendly to people and other animals.

Is the hotel quiet at night?

Slocan is a small, quiet village, and usually quiet at night time. Our Restaurant, The Lobby Grill, operates on the main floor of the Hotel, and often features live music. During the summer season, and on occasion for special events, the restaurant may have music until 11.30pm at the latest, although usually the music is finished earlier than this. If you have concerns, please speak to us beforehand to check if there is a late music event planned during your stay.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your booking online up to 48 hours in advance and receive a full refund of your deposit. If you need to cancel within 48 hours of check in, you will need to contact us directly and we reserve the right to retain at least 50% of your deposit.

What amenities are available in the village?

The village has a general store, gas station, post office, coffee shop, beach with public washrooms, kiddie park, and skate park.

What is there to do nearby?

The Slocan Valley has so much to discover. The lake offers beaches, swimming, kayaking, canoeing or lakeside walks. Springer Creek falls is within easy reach of the village, there are points of access to the Valhalla Provincial Park, and the Slocan Valley Rail Trail, perfect for walking, cycling or cross country skiing depending on the season. Full tourist information including maps, can be found at the campground office on Giffin. The Japanese Canadian Heritage Trail includes many sites in the Slocan area, check out their website for more information. The Slocan Legion Hall, directly opposite the hotel, has regular events, including live music on Fridays and Sundays. The Slocan Saturday Market takes place at the Expo Park every Saturday morning throughout the summer months, featuring local food, crafts, music and more.

What are the roads like in the winter?

Winter in the Kootenays can be unpredictable. Highway 3 between Crescent Valley and Nakusp is usually passable, however you should always check local travel updates during the winter months. The Slocan Valley is susceptible to power outages; however, Slocan City Hotel will soon be fully equipped with a generator to continue service in the event of an outage.

What other places are there in the area to visit?

Bigger centres, like Nelson and Castlegar are about an hours drive to the south. North of the valley is Summit Lake Ski area and Nakusp, where you will find Nakusp Hot Springs and Halcyon Hot Springs. New Denver, 25 minutes north of Slocan features the Nikkei Centre, and Silvery Slocan Museum.  West of New Denver, you will find the ghost town of Sandon and a beautiful drive brings you across to Kaslo.
