As the snow melts, spring in Slocan is heralded by the return of the swallows, the water level of the lake and river rise with the spring freshet, peaking in June. Later in spring the butterflies and hummingbirds arrive, and the bears start to come down into the valley looking or food, while its still cold higher up. The spring can bring all kinds of weather, be prepared for every eventuality, but when the sun is shining, its the perfect time to get out and explore before the heat of the summer arrives.
